With any change in season, we update our wardrobes, and we shift our daily activities. Our eating habits are no exception. This is a perfect time to re-evaluate what we eat, and how we eat and set the tone for the rest of the year.

As the weather warms up, we tend to move towards eating more fruits and raw vegetables.  As satisfying as these foods may seem, they can also leave many of us bloated, feeling uneasy and experiencing digestive discomfort.

According to Ayurvedic Medicine and Chinese Medicine, bloating is in part due to a weak digestive fire. Digestive fire is what helps us break down our food and assimilate what is useful, and eliminate the rest. Our digestive fire should be kept strong and active. Raw foods are cold in nature and can weaken the digestive fire, leading to bloating, poor digestion, an upset stomach, and even sluggishness.  

How can I easily reduce bloating?

The easiest way to keep your digestive fire burning and reduce bloating and an upset stomach are to introduce warm water into your diet.  It can’t get any simpler than that. No drastic shifts in eating habits, or investments into fad diets required. And, you can drink warm water regardless of the season. It's important to always keep that digestive fire burning.

What are the benefits of drinking warm water?

There are so many health benefits to drinking warm water: better digestion, suppressed hunger, reduced toxins in the body, better skin… we’ll let you google all the benefits. There are too many to list here.

Our 21 Day Non-traditional Water Challenge will get you there. The steps are easy.  All you need is a glass, 8 fl/oz of water, and a bit of patience.


For 21 days (begin whenever you feel ready):

1- Start every morning (before consuming anything else) with a cup of warm water. If you decide to boil your water, let it cool down a bit before drinking.

2- Drink one cup of warm water, 15-20 min before every meal.

3- Reap the benefits 

TIP: To make the water flavorful you can add lemon and/or honey to your water after it has cooled down a bit.  Extreme heat reduces the positive health benefits of honey and lemon.

Why 21 days?

That’s how long it takes for most natural remedies to show their effects and for you to form a new habit. To really see the results, keep a journal of how you feel day to day during the challenge. On the final day of the challenge review your previous entries and witness the difference.

What to do when eating out?

As soon as the wait staff hand you a menu, and try to pour you a glass of ice cold water, order a mug of warm water instead. They may look at you funny and ask you what you mean by “warm water”.  Simple response:  “I’d like a hot tea. Hold the tea bag.”

By the time you’ve placed your order, and the wait staff has brought it to you, you’ve already drunk your warm water and are ready for your delicious meal.
